This house was nicknamed 'Midwest Contemporary Cottage' in keeping with its timeless design, along with its modern interior flair. Four stories of living space, with highlights including play lofts above the kids' bedrooms that connect to a fourth floor playroom. Built as a spec by Jeffrey Klum and sold to a private buyer.
Classic story & a half construction, where we took advantage of stick framing the roof to gain lots of usable interior volume. The tiny windows up top are looking from a kids' play loft over the bedrooms (accessible by ladders!)
Kitchen is functional and fun. Comfy booth in the distance can be seen from balcony/hallway above. 'Breakfast's ready!'
View of the master bedroom, a space taking advantage of a cathedral ceiling to bring in loads of natural light. Cleverly furnished by Frey Co.
One of the kids' secret loft spaces accesses a third floor playroom, where an actual stairway allows another way down besides the ladders!
Interior shot of the living room. Notice the built-in shelves; their cubic edges form an eye pleasing texture to a corner of the room. The Frey Company, an interior design firm, was responsible for much of the joy you see here.
Wonderfully sized deck adds an outdoor room to the house. The railings you see against the house protect openings that let light in to the lower level.
